Brief history: the Via Ferrata in Nax was created in 2000. Located on the west face of the Nax rock in the area known as Belvédère, it is suitable for all (for children under 1.50 a rope is advised). Both fun and elevated, a happy mix of mountain enthusiasts and summer vacationers looking for excitement can be found here. Only simple technical skills are required as manoeuvres have been reduced to a minimum. Since it was created it has been used by numerous amateur climbers, nearly all of whom have fallen under its spell. If you are lucky you may see a peregrine falcon. This high-flying hunter also appreciates the great views here and nests on the north face of the Nax peak. This rare species deserves to be protected: only around 20 pairs live in the Valais region. You will also be in the perfect place to observe the curious “sleeping Naxard” rock from which, legend has it, the village of Nax takes its name.
